Configure and evaluate a contract
Define item rules, reference prices and execution limits, then understand what the preview proves.
A contract describes which items you want to buy or sell and the prices and limits to use. You need permission to manage contracts in the current workspace.
A new contract is saved as Draft. Saving does not activate it. The pilot starts with the CSFloat workflow. Saving a contract or seeing matching items does not confirm that live execution is enabled. Review the contract's actual status and the workspace's readiness before relying on trading.
Choose the trading accounts
- Open Account groups and create a group or inspect an existing one. Managing groups needs Trading access; browsing Steam accounts also needs Steam access.
- Select the exact account usernames. The picker also shows the reported profile name, Steam ID and connection state when available; a missing identity is labelled as not observed.
- Save the group, then inspect its Trading accounts. With Steam access, open an account to check its profile and connection. Browser Back returns to the group and its member search and position.
- Select this group when configuring the contract. Group membership makes accounts eligible; it does not establish a healthy connection or usable proxy route.
When editing an existing group, Review current group lets you compare another saved change with your draft. Saving a changed member list replaces the full list; concurrent additions are not merged automatically.
Define the contract
To start from an item you own, inspect it in Inventory and choose Create buying contract. The New buying draft starts with that exact Steam item name selected; it does not copy the inspected asset's float or price into the rules. Continue with the reference, routing and review steps below.
- Alternatively, open Contracts and start a new contract. New drafts start with Buy items. Choose Sell items if you intend to sell; the intent is fixed after creation. Changing to Sell clears purchase-specific limits while entered strategy settings remain for you to review.
- Enter a name that describes the contract's purpose and, optionally, a description.
- In Target items, search by item name and select one or more exact items. The selected names remain visible. Choose Use advanced item rules when you need other fields, comparisons, saved filters or nested all/any groups. A complex rule tree stays in the advanced view.
- In Reference price, choose a Source and Metric, then enter your Discount (%) below the reference or Premium (%) above it. Check the displayed quote age limit. A listed source does not establish available prices or execution readiness. See historical market data to inspect recorded observations for an item and range.
- Open Reference options for multiple references, the valuation strategy, sales calculations or a different maximum observation age.
- In Routing and limits, open Routing options to choose the account group and execution strategies. Only accounts in the selected group may execute. Set any purchase limits you need. You can save a draft without routing; with no execution strategy configured, evaluation alone does not place orders or trades.
- Check Draft review, or open Review draft on a narrow screen, then choose Review all settings to check intent, targets, references, account group, strategies and limits before choosing Save draft. Monetary fields labelled USD use dollar amounts, such as
5.00; an optional blank and an entered zero have different meanings. Complete any invalid setting even if its section is collapsed.
Keep the scope narrow enough that you can explain which items should match. A price-source reference and an account group are separate parts of the configuration.
Make the saved recipe readable
Use all conditions (AND) when every condition must hold, or any condition (OR) when a matching alternative is enough. Nested groups keep their own meaning. For example, an item-name choice can sit inside an OR group while an outer AND group also requires a particular price or sales count. Review the full tree, not just its first visible rules.
Float bounds must remain outside OR groups. Treat the exact bounds separately from a wear name: the condition must describe the float range you intend to trade.
Saved filter sets are named references. Use them for rules shared by several contracts, and inspect the referenced filter before changing it. Referring to a filter does not make an independent copy of its conditions.
Price references can use a market metric or recorded sales. Check the metric's unit and maximum observation age: a count threshold and a USD threshold are different inputs. Choose Below reference with a Discount (%) of 20 for 80% of the source price, or Above reference with a Premium (%) of 20 for 120%. The adjustment is not a profit margin. Review how multiple references are combined, such as the lowest, highest or average reference.
The saved detail shows Saved recipe with its Current version, plus Review target rules. Use that view to check the complete rule tree, named references, price settings, selected account group and execution strategies together. Account groups decide which accounts are eligible; proxy pools decide their routing.
Reuse a saved filter
- Open Filter sets in the sidebar, then choose New saved filter or open one you already use.
- Give it a useful name and save its targeting rules. After an acknowledged save, inspect Current reusable targeting rules.
- Choose Use in new contract to start a draft referencing that filter. Configure the contract's price references, account group and execution settings separately.
- In a contract draft, inspect the selected filter or choose Review all settings, then Review target rules, to check its conditions without leaving the draft. Close the inspection to continue editing.
The reference uses the filter's current rules; it does not pin a historical copy. If a referenced filter is confirmed missing or deleted, resolve that reference before saving. A failed lookup means the rules could not be checked, not that the filter is empty.
Read the live item preview
The live preview requires Analytics access in addition to contract access. If your role cannot view the preview, you can still save a contract; an unavailable preview does not mean there are no matches. See workspace permissions.
Use the item preview to inspect matches for the draft's rules and pricing. Complete any rules the editor marks as incomplete before relying on the result.
Choose Inspect price inputs on a matching item. Check its Exact float window, then compare each source and measure with the Source price before adjustment and Adjusted price. These are inputs returned by this draft evaluation, not the recorded figures from a saved generation. Execution strategies and limits are excluded from the preview.
Choose View item to open the inspected item's catalog entry, then use browser Back to continue your unfinished draft. The inspection reopens when that item is available in the current preview; recheck its figures after returning.
No price inputs returned means those inputs are unavailable, not zero. If the latest read failed, the inspection labels the last preview evaluation. Temporary read failures recover automatically; retained figures remain from that earlier evaluation until an updated result arrives. Changing the draft's rules or pricing closes the old inspection so its figures are not presented as the new result.
The preview's evaluated reference price is a calculated value from the selected references. It is not a guaranteed fill price, an executable order, or profit. A matching item does not mean it has been bought or sold.
A result with no priced matches can mean no matching item has the required price inputs. A preview error or missing coverage is different from a successful evaluation with no matches. Follow the displayed explanation and recovery action.
Save and verify the result
After Save draft, check the acknowledged configuration and the contract detail. An acknowledged save and a later failed read are different: saved data updates automatically after a temporary read failure, and Open saved contract lets you continue to the saved detail. Saving a Draft does not activate it or place a purchase.
If creating a contract reports an unknown outcome, the server may already have created it. The submitted draft remains visible and cannot be sent again from that form. Use Inspect contracts (new tab) and choose the Draft status before deciding whether another creation is needed. An unknown outcome is not a confirmed failure.
The same distinction applies when creating a saved filter set: inspect the existing saved filters after an uncertain result instead of submitting another copy.
If the contract changed while you were editing, compare the saved version with your draft. Do not assume that a stale draft is the current configuration.
Review generations and current targets
The contract detail follows its latest recorded result by default. In Results generation, choose a particular generation to pin it in the page's URL. Keep that URL when you need to discuss the same result. Choose Follow latest to return to the newest available generation.
Compare Generation recorded and Configuration version used with Last evaluation, including its reported age. Saved recipe and Current version describe the configuration saved now, not a historical copy of the recipe used by that generation. A saved Active contract can still have an old evaluation or unavailable item results; neither is evidence of current prices.
Open an item in the results to inspect its exact float window and recorded Buy ceiling or List price. Recorded reference prices shows the source, measure, source price and adjusted price used in that result. An unavailable figure is not zero; these recorded values are not current market quotes or proof of execution.
To trace one item from a current target:
- In Intents, open the target and follow its contributing contract link. This opens the exact item in the contributing generation, including items beyond the first results page.
- Check the item name, float window and Recorded generation before comparing prices. Close the item inspection to read the generation and current saved configuration together on the contract page; Inspect recorded item reopens it.
- Choose another Results generation or Follow latest to compare that same item. The Requested item remains in the link; check the displayed generation again before using its prices. Keep the original pinned URL to return to the contributing result.
Requested item unavailable does not mean that the generation is empty. Temporary read failures recover automatically; inspect the reported state before relying on the result or choosing another recorded generation. A different listed item does not replace the requested item's evidence. If the generation itself is unavailable, resolve that separately before relying on its results.
Changes in this generation compares item results with the preceding saved generation. Those additions, removals or price changes are evaluation changes, not purchases or sales. A failed history read or an unavailable generation is not a successful evaluation with no matches.
Continue to current targets to see the workspace's buy or sell targets and their contributing contract generations.
Activate or pause deliberately
After checking readiness, open Manage contract. Activate contract asks you to confirm use of the configured strategies, accounts and limits. Activation permits execution; it does not guarantee that any item will trade. Do not use it merely to test a preview.
Pause contract prevents new execution work from being generated by that contract. Existing financial records and in-flight venue actions remain. Check the venue and trade offers if you need to understand an action already in progress.
Deleting a contract removes it and its derived evaluations from the workspace; it is not a way to cancel a venue action or erase financial proof. Read the confirmation before deleting.
Before relying on execution
Check the selected account group, Steam connection health, market configuration, execution state and applicable limits. An enabled-looking configuration, available reference price or successful evaluation alone does not establish a successful trade.
For an existing setup managed outside Goldmine, coordinate the transition with the pilot operator. Creating a matching contract is not permission to run two execution systems against the same accounts.
To inspect recorded outcomes, use Purchases and Sales. A contract's item preview and a recorded purchase or sale answer different questions.
